Delete Account
Last updated:
This page explains how to delete your DuyApp account, when the deletion is completed, which data is deleted and which records are kept for a further period. The app is developed by DUYAPP YAZILIM LİMİTED ŞİRKETİ.
Deleting in the app
- Tap the menu (☰) icon at the top right.
- Go to Settings.
- In the Account section, tap Delete account.
- In the window that opens, tap Delete account again and confirm with your passkey.
Deleting without the app
From the university email address registered to your account, send an email with the subject "Account deletion request" to destek@duyapp.com. Your request will be concluded within 30 days at the latest, and you will be notified at the same address when the deletion is complete.
Deletion process and timing
When the deletion is confirmed, your account is locked immediately, becomes invisible to other users, and your email address is removed from the account. The content and data belonging to your account are placed in the background deletion process.
Clean-up in the active database normally proceeds within about 10 minutes; for media files, a final check and deletion stage of about 1 hour follows. If errors occur during processing, retries may extend this period. The retention exceptions and backup periods below apply separately.
Deleted data
- Your profile information, email address, passkeys, sessions and settings.
- Your posts, and the photos, polls, location information and comments belonging to those posts.
- Your votes, saved posts and Duy Points.
- Notifications sent to you.
- Your Duyu chats and Duyu Fun content.
- Session information, cache and message history on the device on which you carried out the deletion.
Data that is not deleted or is retained for a period
- Comments you made on other people's posts: The text and its link to you are deleted. A record without content remains in place so that the structure of the conversation is not broken.
- Private messages you sent: Their encrypted versions remain on the server for 30 days at most. Copies on the recipient's device are not deleted.
- Conversation records: Conversation records are kept for as long as the account of at least one of the participants exists. The participant who deletes their account has their link to the account removed during the deletion process. The remaining conversation records are deleted within 30 days at the latest from the deletion of both accounts. The retention conditions for evidence set aside for a specific complaint or legal proceeding apply separately.
- Complaint records: Your direct account link in the complaint record is removed; this does not mean that the description or evidence content becomes anonymous in every case. Evidence copies of private messages submitted with a complaint are kept for 90 days from the creation of the evidence record; private message complaint records are kept for 365 days from the creation of the complaint record. Other content complaint records are kept for 365 days from the date on which the file was closed, whether by action being taken or by rejection. If the file is reopened, this period is calculated from the date on which it is closed again.
- Invitation relationships: The invitation record in the accounts of the people you invited remains, with its link to you removed.
- Notifications: Your nickname and profile photo may remain in notifications previously sent to other users.
- IP address and session records: Ordinary session records kept for security purposes and the IP and device information associated with them may be retained while the account exists and are removed during account deletion. Expiry or revocation of a session does not mean that its records are deleted at the same time. The retention conditions for statutory traffic records are separate.
- Database backups: Deletion in the active systems may not remove previously created backup copies at the same time. Backup copies are subject to separate retention and destruction processes.
- Technical tracking record of the deletion process: Kept for 30 days after the account deletion is completed.
- Destruction operation records: The minimum records documenting deletion, destruction and anonymisation operations are kept for at least 3 years from the date of the operation. These records do not contain copies of deleted post, comment or message content.
- Support and KVKK requests: Ordinary support correspondence is kept for 6 months from the closing of the request; the minimum records documenting a request under Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data (KVKK), its response, its dates and its delivery are kept for 3 years from the final response. Unnecessary attachments are deleted earlier. Records necessary for a specific dispute or binding obligation may be preserved separately.
- Copies held by others: Screenshots taken by other people and copies of content they keep outside the app cannot be retrieved by DuyApp.
Records that must be kept by law and records that must be retained for the establishment or defence of a legal claim are kept only for the relevant purpose and for the necessary period. When the reason requiring retention ceases to exist, the data is deleted, destroyed or anonymised.
The application methods for exercising your rights to obtain information about, correct and delete your personal data are explained in the Rights and requests section of the KVKK Disclosure Notice.
